28

No, it's not my favorite number- it's just how old I am now. Happy, happy Birthday me!

Just f.y.i.- you can still have birthday parties when you are 28. I might continue on having them at least until I'm 30. Perhaps when you stop having parties is when you really get old. I don't know. But I love my friends- all of them. We had a lovely party after church last night with tasty food and birthday apple crisp- thank you, Karyn. It was sooooo goood!!!!!! I got lots of fascinating birthday cards. Barbie, flipflops, a monkey with a snotty nose......oh, and we can't forget the "studfinder" card.....courtesy of my brother who once again was reminding me that I am still single. Whatever.... he did get me a good gift so I'll let it go this time. Yes, I even got presents- all kinds of nice things, including an 8x10 black and white picture of MacGyver to hang in our t.v. room.....I'm telling you, what more can you ask for? Oh yes, the phone call from Henry complete with the birthday song. It almost brought me to tears. His wasn't the only phone call- family from North Carolina called as well as my little Zavier, who also sang to me and promptly asked me to come over and have ice cream with him! If only I could zip out to Oregon for a bowl of ice cream with the little man!
Hopefully you get the picture that I had a great day. I even ate dinner at Outback with my family- and stuffed myself with the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under!

Thanks to everyone who helped me have a lovely number 28!

Lesson #942- don't kiss anyone with a snotty nose.

It's a good thing to remember. Of course, sometimes you don't intend for something to happen, and then it's too late and you have snot on your face- someone else's snot.
Yesterday when I went to pick up Nils from school, I got down on my knees to talk to him. He threw his arms around my neck and "kissed" me right on the mouth. Nils never kisses me- I kiss him all the time, but this was totally a first for him. In a way, I was thrilled at this voluntary show of affection. However, his nose was running and the "kiss" was more of a spit. It's hard to describe. And Imran was the only witness- he just laughed at me and was probably secretly glad that Nils had chosen me as the victim of this action. You know how Bill Cosby always said, "I zerburt you"? I think it may have been an extra slobbery zerburt. All I know is, I ended up wiping my face off with my glove, and Nils ran off laughing.

Happy Birthday to Nils!

Yes, Nils turned 6 this past weekend. We had quite a day. We went to the pet store and bought a fish. Nils keeps walking around saying, "what's his name?" The fish doesn't actually have a name yet. We're just hoping he lives for a week or so at least.

Nils did a great job blowing out his candles. It took several tries, but he finally got them all out by himself ! He got lots of presents, including a new bike, which he immediately rode all around the kitchen!

Snow Day

The kids loved the snow- for a few minutes. Then they got cold, and the dog started jumping on them and knocking them down......tears......time to go in.

Adoption

Samuel Corban- "requested of God", "dedicated to God". Everyone at my church has been waiting for him to arrive. We have been praying that he would be delivered safely. We have prayed that he would be healthy. Our prayers have been answered. Tonight we praised God for His goodness and faithfulness.
Corban has been adopted by my pastor and his wife. They adopted a little girl 5 years ago after being unable to have children of their own. They very appropriately named her "Patience". Just 2 months ago, they found out about this other adoption opportunity. They have been out of state for over a month waiting for Corban to be born. They have had exciting moments and discouraging moments. And lots of waiting. And the church has waited with them. We all thought Corban would never arrive! And then there were days when it appeared that the birth mother was going to change her mind. But in God's perfect timing Corban entered this world, the papers were signed, and he was handed to a very happy mommy, daddy and big sister. It truly was a miracle and God deserves all the praise.

Adoption is an amazing thing to think about. It's amazing that so many people do not want their children. This little boy could very well have ended up in a horrible situation, but God has mercifully placed him in a Christ centered home, where he is already completely loved. God is so good, and I am so thankful that He has been merciful to me. Not only has He adopted me and saved me from my sins, but He has blessed me with so many people who love me. And He has granted me the wonderful privilege to help care for children. Every day I am more thankful for Nils. Children truly are a blessing from God.
